Seigen Ono | Comme des Garcons vol. 1+2, 1995
"Music that no one has heard of", "music that can make clothes look beautiful" That’s how Rei Kawakubo requested to Seigen Ono.
In 1987, Seigen Ono served as the music director for the Comme des Garçons Paris show for the first time and left a deep impression on Paris. Seigen Ono talked about the collaboration with Rei Kawakubo, "At that time, after Rei Kawakubo expressed her demands, there were only two ways to make such music. One was improvisation, that is, playing live and spontaneously responding to the visual aspects of the show. The other is composing music according to the scene, just like the movie soundtrack. And Rei Kawakubo chose the latter. But at that time, the venue was quite spacious, and it took 30-40 minutes to walk, so it was almost as big as making an album.
In the CD1 of the album features a lineup of New York's most avant-garde musicians of the time. Including Bill Frisell, Oscar Peterson, John Zorn, and even Miles Davis participated in the recording. While CD 2 bursts with the cheerful mood of ethnic and folklore-flavored tunes, CD1 contains the music "All men are heels" composed for the Comme des Garçons homme plus show in 1988. It is an experimental piece that starts with the sonorous and powerful sound of high-heeled shoes.
